Great bar , reminds me of the bars in the 1950's . Prices are much lower than other bars but top shelf liquors, juke box full of classic tunes, bartender was very friendly, like I remembered from my early days of visiting bars . Plus the hours of business are outstanding. You must visit it to appreciate how a true drinking establishment should be run. No food served its just a true example of a real bar.
First time to Chicago and I'll tell you of all the the places I visited this was the best. Bobby and Jim behind the bar was the best. This is the best dive bar in the city by far. This will be my first stop when I visit next. These guys are awesome. I love the old school ways. Cash only is the easy to go. Old style in a bottle is hard to find but Richard s had it baby.
Might be the most legit tavern I've ever been to in my life and I don't say that lightly since I've been to a lot of those. They truly don't make em like this anymore, it is like stepping into a time machine. Famously "allows" smoking, even the bartender lights up in front of the no smoking sign. Jukebox mostly plays Sinatra of course, and obviously, cash only. Feels like Joe Pesci is gonna walk in any minute. A guy just bought a round for the 3 of us patrons here as I type this on a Sunday afternoon, just a few of us in a smoky tavern as crooners softly play on the jukebox, it feels like I'm in a painting. Time seems to stand still here and it's a beautiful thing. One of my favorite bars anywhere.
Amazing, friendly bartenders, wonderful jukebox, and lovely atmosphere for hanging out with friends/family.
Dive bar that let's you smoke cig and cigars inside. You will stink when you leave due to the place has an airfilter that is too small. Beers are not real cold for some odd reason don't know if they need new fridge. Price are extremely reasonable. Bar staff are friendly to women. Parking a pain in neck. Feed the meter if you there early. Gambling machines were pretty busy keeping gamblers happy.
I have been going to Richard's most of my adult life. It's the only place where I can drink my beer and smoke my squares as intended it's an ADULT bar. I miss places like this. And I love the jukebox because it's a jukebox. All classic pop songs from the golden old days. From the Rat Pack to Ella Fitzgerald to Tony Bennett and Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole it's all in there. It's a great time for grown folk who remember when bars like these were for the grownups.
Richard's bar is a true old school dive. The bartender is attentive and makes a great drink. They give an authentic old Chicago bar experience it would be hard to find anywhere.
